Poole's Mill Creek Cummings, GA

The park, on the National Historic Registry, offers wee ones the chance to rock hop and tickle their toes in the creek. Bigger (and braver) kids can slip around on their bottom or belly on the rocks so be sure to back a suit that can stand up to some sliding.

Slide the rocks, play in the creek and have a great time! There are restrooms and a playground on site plus 10 acres to hike, picnic and enjoy nature!

Hike and Picnic at Big Trees Forest Preserve Sandy-Springs June 05, 2016 13:17

Big Tree Forest Sandy Springs, GA

The creek that runs through here is clean and crisp.  We love taking this hike with a picnic, as the creek has a large clearing near the end of the hike where you can set up “camp” and enjoy the day munching on treats and wading in the water.

Ultimate PB&J French Toast February 08, 2016 08:46

Grinders, Emily G's and H&F Bread Co. make the ultimate PB&J French toast

French Toast Ideas from Garnish & Gather February 05, 2016 06:01

1. Pretzel Bread French Toast

Slice H&F Pretzel Ficelle into thick slices and batter them with egg and a little cinnamon & sugar. Pan fry them and you're on your way to a salty-sweet heaven. We love topping this one with a little almond butterfor extra protein.

2. Egg in a French Bagel Basket

For this gem, simple slice your H&F Bagel in half and batter in egg. Add to a hot pan and while its cooking, crack and a farm fresh egg into the center to make a new take on an egg-in-a-basket. The savoriness of the bright yellow yolk mixes great with a sweet kick from Red Earth Organics Blueberry Syrup.

3. Georgia Pecan Biscuit French Toast & Sausage

You can't have biscuits without sausage. This is Georgia after all! Get a hot pan going and cook up somesausage patties. Meanwhile, whisk eggs with some Georgia Pecan Milk and use it batter H&F Biscuits. Pan fry those bad boys in the sausage grease and you've got a serious Southern treat!

4. Goat Cheese-Stuffed Pita French Toast

Mix up a little Caly Road Goat Cheese with Atlanta Fresh Greek yogurt to make a creamy filling. Mix in some scallions for a savory filling, or some cinnamon and sugar for a sweet filling. Stuff that into freshly baked H&F Pita Bread, batter with eggs and pan fry to perfection. This one is great with a dollup of Red Earth Organic Farms Blueberry Preserves on top.

Have the best week ever. Get all these fresh local goodies and have a French Toast Celebration!!

Thank You Garnish & Gather!

Breakfast Around the World - France February 03, 2016 12:01

Fresh Baguettes croissants

"In France, breakfast revolves around butter. The most common breakfast is a fresh baked baguette, salted butter, marmalade, a glass of orange juice and an Americano or Lungo coffee,” Sandra Lorenzo tells us.

"Don’t worry, I didn’t forget the croissants! We usually eat these on Saturday and Sunday because we do not have time to go to the bakery every morning before work. If possible, we prefer fresh orange juice.

“We would eat a croissant during the week if, for example, we're running late to work. Many eat cereal with milk. According to a recent survey, 1 in 5 French people do not eat breakfast at all."

Breakfast Around the World - Germany February 03, 2016 12:01

Lea Kosch from HuffPost Germany says: "Germans usually eat whole wheat bread, cheese, cold cuts and a soft-boiled egg. The most important of all however is a big cup of the worst drip coffee you will ever find. Even though Germans have discovered the allure of the cappuccino and the latte, many insist on drinking their drip coffee black. There is also a sweeter version of breakfast, which includes bread with marmalade, orange juice and cereal (for those who prefer something more healthy).

"The Bavarian version of breakfast is very different. Bavarians eat two beef sausages with sweet mustard and a pretzel for breakfast. The most hardcore Bavarians eat their breakfast with a beer! There is also an old Bavarian rule that says it is an infraction to eat beef sausages past midday.”

Breakfast Around the World - Brazil February 03, 2016 12:00

"Breakfast in Brazil is usually a light meal," Luciana Sarmento says. "It’s not considered the most important meal of the day. That, however, does not mean that it is less flavorful. Most people in Brazil have bread, butter, sometimes marmalade, cheese and coffee or a café latte for breakfast. Fruit is also an important part of breakfast. We usually have either orange juice (store bought or fresh squeezed), papaya, banana or melon (sometimes with cereal and honey).

"As Brazil is a large country, breakfast may change by region. In the northeast regions, for example, they eat 'manioc,' a local root that is much like sweet potato. It may be cooked or served in many ways, and it may take the form of flour (tapioca starch), which is very popular throughout the country.”

Breakfast Around the World - Australia February 03, 2016 11:32

H&F Bread Co. Multi-grain toast

Leigh Campbell from HuffPost Australia tells us: "Avocado toast is very popular in Australia. We can't get enough avocado (which we call 'avo') and you will find in most cafés and homes. Australians like to combine it with multigrain bread and a squeeze of lemon. You will often find it on menus as 'avocado smash' with tomato and feta or halloumi. It’s tasty, filling and ideal for vegetarians.”

Tips for Entertaining - Ask For Help! November 09, 2015 05:31

Not only can a few extra hands help with those last-minute finishing touches, but Alison also finds that most guests love to make a small contribution to bringing the meal together. Once guests have a cocktail in hand, Alison might ask them to take on a task—fill bottles with water for the table, dress the salad (since that should always be done at the last moment), light the candles, help carve meat, or bring soup bowls to the table after Alison fills them.

One tip for lighting the candles: Alison suggests lots of votives in glass, and she always puts a few drops of water in each glass before placing the candle. That way, the wax won’t stick to the glass, and you avoid the bummer of the after-party wax battle.

Set a Simpler Table November 09, 2015 05:26

Too many forks and knives can look like you’re preparing war with silverware! All you really need is a fork and a knife, and a spoon only if you’re serving soup.

— Bryn Clarke, Haven’s Kitchen’s tabletop expert

Haven’s Kitchen’s pared-down approach to table settings is chic yet puts everyone at ease. Bryn Clarke, Haven’s Kitchen’s expert on tabletop (and an alum of Per Se), gave us the lowdown on what you need to pull off the same look—and keep things simple:

a water glass and one medium-size wineglass at each setting (no need for multiple wineglasses—a midsize one can work for red or white)

a white plate—”food always looks best on a white plate”—topped with a bowl if you’re serving soup first

a French bistro napkin folded on the plate—choose a cotton one, since linen often requires ironing

a fork, a knife, and a spoon—though you need the spoon only if you’re serving soup. As Bryn points out, “Too many forks and knives can look like you’re preparing war with silverware! When you serve dessert, you can bring the dessert spoons or forks in a mason jar.”

To make sure that things go smoothly from there, Bryn suggests a restaurant trick that works wonders at home: “I always stand behind each place and make sure guests will feel they have everything they need in an arm’s reach—including a water bottle and wine. Guests can feel uncomfortable asking for something they’re missing.”

Let Guests Make Their Own Drinks - Holiday Entertaining Tips November 09, 2015 05:20

entertaining tips

The DIY cocktail bar might be our favorite of all of Haven’s Kitchen’s entertaining go-tos. It saves the hosts from the messy multitasking of trying to make drinks, greet other guests, take coats, and so on—and lets guests have fun right off the bat. “People love putting their own spin on their cocktail,” Alison says. “It brings out the kid in all of us—like, I put a lemon in mine and lots of blackberries! It’s the perfect way to loosen up a party.”

Another advantage to cocktails over wine: no possibility of a red-wine spill on the sofa. “There’s nothing that kills a party vibe faster than a hostess freaking out about her sofa,” Alison says.

Don’t Think Menu—Think Market November 09, 2015 05:11

Fresh makes the menu

“Food is such a good way to connect to nature and the seasons,” Alison says. “As we get into fall, everyone craves root vegetables—turnips, carrots, squash—and darker greens.” From there, Alison suggests two directions for the flavoring: “I like to either go into the French world, where it’s about rosemary and thyme, or into a more Middle Eastern taste with tahini and parsley.” As for the “protein” course, once the grill is stored away for the season, she’ll roast or braise the meat.

This particular dinner featured vegetables galore in the form of a shallot tart tatin, a salad of winter chicories with roasted beets, harissa-roasted carrots, a caldo verde with kale, and roasted cauliflower. When you begin with what’s at the market, the vegetables will naturally take a starring role in the menu.

Eat and View October 09, 2015 03:00

The popular television series, "The Walking Dead", premieres on AMC this Sunday, October 11, 2015. The show stars Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, and more. "The Walking Dead" is about a plague that happened and caused people to become infected mentally. This caused them to die but somehow be alive to eat, hence the title "The Walking Dead". The show follows a group of individuals who will do anything to survive. Through many obstacles and close calls, the group sticks together and makes it through the most unimaginable situations.

In honor of this suspenseful series, we want to highlight Holeman and Finch's Bloody Mary Mix. What makes a good Bloody Mary? For those of us here at H&F, we believe it is the balance of bright citrus, tangy tomatoes and savory spices. Think of our mix as the perfect diving board: Carefully crafted to enjoy as is, and just as suitable for free-styling. We believe in collaboration. Go ahead. If you want to add a little cracked pepper, do it. More Worcestershire? Pick your brand. The Bloody Mary is a state of mind.

Have a party this Sunday and watch the Season Premiere of The Walking Dead with H&F's Bloody Mary Mix. Grab some shrimp, green olives, and a martini glass and make it interesting!

There is a Breast Cancer walk on October 24th at Centennial Olympic Park. Visit makingstrideswalk.org to donate and join the walk for the cause!

You don't have to have breast cancer or know someone that has it in order to be aware and help. It takes having a heart and an abundance of love to stand with women every where to support women that are fighting to survive! Join the movement, join the love.
